Wellbeing

The Mental Health in Primary Schools (MHiPS) initiative is a state-wide program developed by pediatricians, educators, psychologists, and researchers. It is designed to strengthen the ability of Victorian primary schools to support student mental health by upskilling experienced teachers to take on the role of Mental Health and Wellbeing Leaders (MHWLs).

Each school appoints one or more MHWLs who:

  • Support teachers to identify and assist students with mental health needs
  • Establish clear pathways for accessing internal and external support services
  • Coordinate wellbeing initiatives with staff, families, and community organisations

MHWLs focus on promoting wellbeing, prevention, and early intervention across the entire school community.

At Yinnar Primary School, our Mental Health and Wellbeing Leaders are:
Ms Nicole Gill and Ms Jayme-Lee Griffin
