From the Principal

It’s wonderful to be back at school this term. I’ve truly appreciated the warm welcome from so many parents and students who have inquired about my time away. I am excited to dive into another positive and rewarding term together.

I would like to thank Julia Niamh for stepping in during my five-week leave. Julia thoroughly enjoyed her time at our school and was greatly impressed by the dedication of our staff, the enthusiasm of our students, and the warmth of our school community.

A special thank you goes to Nicole Gill, who took on many additional responsibilities during this period. Her hard work and commitment were truly invaluable.

Term 4 is well planned and plays a key role in each student's learning journey. Our teachers are committed to providing high quality learning for all students, making every day at school count. Attendance is key to success, so I kindly remind you to monitor your child's attendance closely. We want to ensure that they make the most of this important term. I hope your children are excited about the many opportunities that await them, both in and out of the classroom.

At this time of the year, many decisions and arrangements are being made in preparation for the 2025 school year. To assist in our planning, we would appreciate being notified as soon as possible if you are moving away from the school or if you know of any new families moving into our school area. At this stage we intend to keep a 10-class structure.

Why is regular attendance at school important?

Being at school is the most important thing a child needs to do for their future. School helps children build good habits for later in their life. They might think school is just about Maths and English, but they are also learning about how to work with other people and how to solve problems. Being at school every day also means children are becoming more independent as a learner and developing a variety of ways to interact with their friends and teachers. If children are at school, they can get help from their teachers and friends and won’t have to try to learn things in their own time. Being an adult probably seems far away but we know that young people who attend school more frequently have better outcomes after school too. This means they earn more money, have better job opportunities and are generally healthier. So being at school really does make a difference!

Day for Daniel

Day for Daniel is scheduled for Friday, October 25th, aiming to encourage parents and educators to engage in conversations with children and young people about personal safety. Teachers will be planning lessons focused on safety measures and guiding students on who to approach if they have concerns. We encourage both students and staff to wear red on that day. School Uniform

A quick reminder about the importance of adhering to our school's student dress code policy. Uniforms play a role in creating a sense of identity, belonging, and unity within our school community. To maintain this sense of pride, I kindly request that students refrain from wearing jewellery, including necklaces, bracelets, and large earrings.

Additionally, I encourage students to use the designated school bags provided by the school. These uniform regulations are not just about appearance but also about safety. They help ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment where everyone feels part of the team.

I would like to congratulate the 17 students from our school who recently competed in the regional athletics competition on Tuesday 15 October. Congratulations to Morgen, Eleanor, Elliott, Jayden B, Juliette, Quade, Zoe M, Austin, Jayden M, Aidan M, Eli, Beth, Mikinlee, Jobe, Harry T, Tahlia and Alice. Their commitment, fabulous attitudes, and willingness to give it their all is quite inspiring. A special congratulations goes to our girls' relay team for making it through to the state championships for the third year in a row—an incredible achievement! Congratulations also to Alice and Elliot for qualifying for state-level individual events. I’m so proud of each and every one of you! A big thank you to the parents for their ongoing support, which plays such a key role in these successes. As the principal, I couldn’t be prouder of what our small primary school here in Yinnar continues to achieve.

Day for Daniel

Every Minute Counts

It is concerning the number of students who arrive late to school or get picked up early.  While we understand that it is not always easy to get an appointment outside school hours, it is interesting to note how even just a small amount of time can add up over a child's school life.

Late Arrival at School

Your child’s best learning time is at the beginning of each day.

Arriving late to school even just a few minutes can take a week off learning time for the year, which is almost half a year over a child’s lifetime at school.

The first bell rings at 8.35am with students expected to be in class by 8.45am ready to learn.

Late arrival to school is not only unsettling and embarrassing for your child, but a disruption to the class and those who are already in class learning.

Early Departure from School

Many students depart from school early, causing disruption to other students’ learning due to announcements over the school PA.

Students should only be picked up early if they have an appointment.    Preferably appointments are made during the school holidays or after school hours (we understand that this is not always practical or possible).

If you are picking your child up early due to an appointment can you please contact the office so that we can ensure your child is ready for collection from the office?  Please also enter the information into Compass so that School Attendance data is up to date and correct.

Early school departures cause a lot of distraction and interruption to everyone’s learning across the school.

We appreciate your support with late arrivals and early departures.
