22nd August 2024

From the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

As you are aware, Christine Hall is on leave until the end of Term 3, and I have the privilege of spending 5 weeks at Yinnar Primary School. Thank you to students, families, and staff alike for making me feel so welcome and part of the community.

During my first week here I have been extremely impressed with the positive learning behaviours that I have seen in the classrooms and the way the students are demonstrating the GRACE values out in the yard. Viewing the school through a fresh lens, I can certainly see that there is a strong learning community in Yinnar through a partnership between students, teachers, and families. Students strive to meet the expectations of the school and I would like to thank all families for your continued support.

National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence

On Friday 16th of August, the school leaders organised the ‘Bully No way Day’. I would like to congratulate them on their fantastic presentations to all grades where students had the opportunity to participate in activities to learn the difference between bullying and non-bullying behaviour and identifying a trusted person who they feel safe to talk to about problems, such as bullying.

It was wonderful to see students wearing a ‘splash of purple’ to support this campaign and I am confident that all students will help to ensure that Yinnar Primary School is a safe and kind environment every single day.

Celebration Assembly

Thank you to those families who were able to attend the Celebration on Friday 16th of August. Congratulations to all students who received recognition for their exemplary learning and the acknowledgement of the sporting teams who represented Yinnar Primary School with pride. It is wonderful to hear that when the Yinnar Primary School students attend events that they demonstrate our GRACE values and sportsmanship.

Attendance

We have reached the halfway point of Term 3, and I would like to thank you for ensuring that your child attends school regularly. I would like to request that you notify the school prior to the commencement of the school day so that classroom teachers can plan accordingly for your child’s absence. SMS attendance notifications are pushed out automatically after 9:25am, and it is appreciated when you contact the school regarding an absence prior to the notification.

Book Week

On Friday 23rd of August we welcome all families to attend our Book Week Parade in the stadium. I am looking forward to seeing all the creative costumes that students have put together for the day.

Enjoy your week

Julia

100 Days of School

On Friday 2nd of August our Preps reached a wonderful milestone – they have been at school for 100 days!   Every day since they commenced school the Preps have been counting the days.  For every 10 days reached there is a special ‘Bundle Dance’ and the Prep teachers and the Principal dance along with the children.  Sometimes there is even a cartwheel, or a handstand added just for fun!  Finally, they reached the special number 100, and it was cause for huge celebration!  All the Prep students had the opportunity to dress up with the 100 theme in mind.  We are sure that you will enjoy the photos of some of our Preps and staff in their special 100 costume!

Kinder Visit for Olympic Day

Recently the kinder students from Yinnar came to visit the school for a morning of Olympic competition and fun with the Prep students, with some assistance from our House Leaders.  There were lots of games and sport and children went home with medals in celebration of their successful morning.

Every Minute Counts

It is concerning the number of students who arrive late to school or get picked up early.  While we understand that it is not always easy to get an appointment outside school hours, it is interesting to note how even just a small amount of time can add up over a child's school life.

Late Arrival at School

Your child’s best learning time is at the beginning of each day.

Arriving late to school even just a few minutes can take a week off learning time for the year, which is almost half a year over a child’s lifetime at school.

The first bell rings at 8.35am with students expected to be in class by 8.45am ready to learn.

Late arrival to school is not only unsettling and embarrassing for your child, but a disruption to the class and those who are already in class learning.

Early Departure from School

Many students depart from school early, causing disruption to other students’ learning due to announcements over the school PA.

Students should only be picked up early if they have an appointment.    Preferably appointments are made during the school holidays or after school hours (we understand that this is not always practical or possible).

If you are picking your child up early due to an appointment can you please contact the office so that we can ensure your child is ready for collection from the office?  Please also enter the information into Compass so that School Attendance data is up to date and correct.

Early school departures cause a lot of distraction and interruption to everyone’s learning across the school.

We appreciate your support with late arrivals and early departures.

Happy Birthday August & September

Sporting News

Football:

A few weeks ago, the grade 5/6 girls participated in regional school footy. We were incredibly fortunate that we were able to skip the district and division rounds, due to no other schools wanting to participate. This meant that we played some bigger and more challenging schools straight away. We played four games, winning only 1 of these. Everyone showed amazing sportsmanship, tried their hardest and had a fun day out.

Basketball:

Yinnar Primary School was well represented last Thursday at the district level basketball competition. We had two boys teams and three girls teams who showed wonderful sportsmanship and great skills throughout the day. The day consisted of wins, draws and losses with two teams making it through to the grand final. The boys team came up against a strong opposition and were unfortunately defeated - bad luck boys, you should be really proud of your efforts! The girls team remained undefeated and are through to the division level next week, good luck girls!

Netball:

Recently, a team of grade 6 girls went to Sale to compete in the regional netball competition. Throughout the day, the team won two games and lost two games, but were very competitive against the other teams. Everyone show great sportsmanship and were very proud of their achievements and making it to this higher level of competition.
