Principals Message

The latest news from our Principal Christine Hall.

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back, everyone! As we enter the third week of this term, I'm excited to see everyone returning with renewed energy and enthusiasm. I hope your break provided the rest and relaxation needed to recharge ready for a great term.

Students are encouraged to approach the new term with curiosity, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn.  Our students can look forward to a wide range of exciting opportunities both inside and outside the classroom.

It was wonderful to see so many parents and family members for Family Friday which was followed by the House Cross Country. I completely understand that running cross country isn't every student's dream event. However, I was incredibly impressed by the number of students who really gave their best effort, as well as the many students cheering and encouraging everyone to do their best.

Resilience is an important trait that helps students to face challenges and bounce back from setbacks. By developing the resilience of our students, we can have a significant impact on their academic and personal success, as well as their overall well-being.

At Yinnar Primary School we aim to create a safe and supportive environment where students feel comfortable taking risks and making mistakes. We purposely encourage positive peer relationships and emphasize the importance of empathy and kindness. We encourage students to view challenges as opportunities for growth and learning, rather than as obstacles to be avoided.

The House Cross Country highlighted the power of community and how fortunate we are to have such a supportive and inclusive environment where every student feels valued, respected, and empowered to succeed.

This week, I've had the pleasure of reading some of the students' writing pieces. It's been very rewarding to witness the progression and skill development from prep to grade 6. The prep students are now writing letters and words which is obviously the first step in becoming a writer. We strive for our students to leave YPS as proficient writers. Below is a small snippet of a grade 6 student’s writing. Thanks for sharing, Eleanor.

I dig my knees into the dirt, covering my ears, crying. Young girls and boys are screaming in horror, running… The fog was still hanging over the bay, but all the movement broke it up, letting it rise. 'Please God, save us from the violence of the enemy and keep us safe from the evil and harm.'

I try to look up, but the dust creeps into my eyes. Sweat trickles down my neck, beneath my ponytail, getting caught somewhere in my muddy shirt. I feel two cold hands wrapped around my waist, lifting my body weight into the still, clear air.

“Get your hands off me!” I wriggle around, trying to slip away from the stranger.

I hear a whisper in my ear. 'Shh, you'll get us caught.'

I can hear his feet tremble against the ground.

Finally, it was fabulous to see so many of our students at the ANZAC Day March. This local march and wreath laying service was an opportunity for our students to show their respect and empathy, as they remembered all Australians who served and died in military service to our country past and present. It is also a day to practise gratitude. I was very proud of our three school leaders, who led the march and our student leaders who were involved in the service, placed the wreath at the cenotaph, as well as 30+ students who respectfully attended.

Kurnai College Awareness Day - Grade 5 & 6

Recenty Our Grade 5 & 6 Students attended Kurnai College in Churchill Our Grade 5 & 6 Students recently visited Kurnai College in Churchill to experience a day as a secondary school student and explore and learn about what the college  has to offer.  They had a fabulous day experimenting in the science laboratory, learning about chemistry, physics and biology and doing some wood work in the technology department.  It is very different to primary school.
